Overview
Kount Advanced Fraud Prevention helps you identify transactions that might be risky. When a transaction is flagged as "Needs Review," you can manually assess the risk and decide whether to keep or cancel the order. This guide walks you through how to find, evaluate, and take action on reviewed transactions—all within your Merchant Portal.
What Does “Needs Review” Mean?
Transactions marked as Needs Review have triggered one of your custom thresholds or filters. These aren’t automatically declined—they’re held for your review so you can choose what to do.
Example: You set a rule to review any transaction over $1,000. A $1,200 transaction will be marked as Needs Review, giving you time to decide before fulfilling the order.
Where to Find Reviewed Transactions
To access flagged transactions:
Log into your Merchant Portal
Go to Marketplace Apps
Select Kount Advanced Fraud Prevention
Under Utilities, click Transaction History
What You’ll See in the Transaction History
Each transaction includes:
Kount Score – Numeric fraud risk score
Kount Decision – Approve, Decline, or Needs Review
Triggered Thresholds – Shows which rules were hit
You can sort, filter, or search by transaction date, amount, or status.
How to Take Action on Reviewed Transactions
You have two options:
1. Review Complete
Use this when you're confident the transaction is safe. This keeps the order as-is.
2. Cancel Transaction
Cancels or refunds the transaction, depending on its status:
Transaction Status | What Happens |
---|---|
Unsettled | Transaction is voided (no funds captured) |
Settled | Transaction is refunded (funds returned to customer) |
You can take these actions from either:
The Transaction Reports Page
Or by clicking into the Transaction Details Page
Special Case: Transaction Failed
If a transaction shows a Status = Failed, you won’t be able to take action. This means the payment was already declined by the processor, before it could be reviewed for fraud.
Best Practices for Reviewing Transactions
Check your Transaction History daily for new reviews.
Use the Triggered Thresholds column to understand what raised the flag.
Combine fraud signals with your business context (e.g., unusual shipping address, mismatched billing info).
Adjust thresholds in Threshold Management if you see consistent false positives.
Common Questions
Can I reverse a “Cancel Transaction”?
No. Once a transaction is voided or refunded, it cannot be reversed. Make sure to double-check the details before proceeding.
What if I ignore a Needs Review transaction?
It will be processed as normal unless you take action to void or refund it.
Why can’t I cancel a Failed transaction?
Failed transactions were rejected by the processor and never reached the fraud review stage.
